Even if you actually did find the line between depiction and endorsement that more than one person could agree on, how could you reasonably enforce that over thousands or millions of stories? The only way is to read them from start to finish and then decide based on your own interpretation wether or not it actually broke that rule. Millions of stories were simply wiped clean, including stories where people overcame their challenges and found a way to heal. FF.NET went through a similar purging, and so did LiveJournal, where Strikethrough occured. Sometimes, the line between simple depiction and endorsement is extremely thin, and everyone has different ideas for where that line should be. Where do you draw the line between talking about bad things and romanticizing bad things? Wattpad said that it would remove all fiction that romanticized rape, but in practice it actually just banned everything, including threads where survivors talked about their experiences. That being said, literally think about the moderation you are suggesting. Feel free to tell me if I read more hostility in your question than you intended, because I’ve done that before, and I apologize if I have. Sometimes that happens when you’re confronted with such a freaky scene. “She got so into it, and it was so shocking to us, that we all started hysterically laughing. “We had the door open and there were so many people in the room when it was happening, but she didn’t care,” Appice tells Classic Rock. The original group decided to take their leave when Cole and Wayne shoved the thrashing animal inside her. All the while, Stein’s camera was rolling. Before too long the groupie lay naked on the bed, “bucking and screaming with pleasure”, as Cole started whipping her with the mud shark. The gathering was swiftly gatecrashed by the boisterous party from next door, namely Cole, Stein, Zep roadie Clive Coulson and Fudge road manager, Bruce Wayne. Appice had previously told her that Mark Stein had camera gear, prompting her to rush in and declare: “I want to make a movie with you guys.” She was, noted the drummer, very high. The following afternoon she called in at John Paul Jones’s room at the Edgewater, where Jones, Appice, Vanilla Fudge bassist Tim Bogert, plus Plant and wife Maureen, were hanging out. According to Appice, he’d hooked up with the girl a day earlier, during which time she’d performed oral sex on him in his limo. If anything, this report is more disturbing than Cole’s. He doesn’t have a clear memory of it and he’s prone to exaggeration.” The other major account is by Richard Cole, who, by his own admission, was off his head most of the time. He can remember things in excruciating detail and is an unusually fertile source. Despite leading in some ways a dissolute life, Carmine has never really been a big drug-taker or big drinker, so his memory’s intact. He was sitting right on the side of the bed while it was going on and he wanted to share it. “First of all, a lot of people thought it didn’t happen, that it was just an apocryphal thing,” says Ian Gittins, Appice’s co-author on Stick It! “But what Carmine has done is give it complete chapter and verse. It’s a testament to the salacious appeal of ‘The Mud Shark Incident’ that it’s already elicited plenty of column inches in the American tabloids. Heading into Tomorrowland, you can spot another interactive phone - this one far more futuristic-looking than The Chapeau's - near the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. This phone and its related conversation were originally found at Magic Kingdom's Market Hous, eventually finding its way to The Chapeau after the Market House was permanently closed. While it may look like a simple prop meant to tie-in into the store's homely early 20th century aesthetic, if you actually pick up the phone, you'll overhear some juicy town gossip from some old-timey town residents. On Main Street, U.S.A., inside the hat shop known as The Chapeau, you'll notice an old-fashioned phone hanging on the wall. The first of these phones can be found upon your entrance to the Magic Kingdom. These all originate from a hidden Smellitzer somewhere on the attraction. As an example, guests who ride on Pirates of the Caribbean might notice the smell of salt water and wood in certain scenes, while guests who set out on EPCOT's Soarin' are likely to smell jasmine, fresh earth, and coastal sea breezes. For instance, one might associate the smell of cookies with childhood, a feeling that Disney hopes to elicit from every visitor who steps through its gates.įar from utilizing the scent of food alone, Disney also has a Smellitzer on some of its most popular rides. Disney strategically places these Smellitzers in special locations, helping create a greater feeling of immersion for visitors as well as triggering a sense of nostalgia among guests. These devices are positioned in specific locations around Walt Disney World, periodically omitting a certain scent through a mixture of fans and pressurized air. To understand what exactly a Smellitzer is, it helps to think of it almost as a large aroma diffuser. Whether this story is true or not, the Utilidors have allowed Disney characters to access each land in Magic Kingdom since the park opened, preserving the immersive experience Disney worked so hard to create. Feeling the cast member looked achingly out of place in the futuristic facade of Tomorrowland - spoiling the illusion of the entire area - Disney began laying out plans for an underground city beneath Magic Kingdom. Here, Disney cast members are free to change costumes, eat, and rehearse their roles.Īccording to Disney legend, the idea for a subterranean tunnel system originated when Walt Disney happened to see a cast member dressed as a cowboy walking through Disneyland's Tomorrowland. In these tunnels, there are locations dedicated to trash disposal, costuming, and an offloading zone for trucks. Spanning the entire Magic Kingdom, the Utilidors allow Disney employees to traverse beneath the park, getting from one area to another in a limited time without being seen by guests. Disney manages to accomplish this feat through a system of underground tunnels known as Utilidors. Originally released in 1981, the track came out on the flipside over a rap cut to the song by Bo Kool, one of the earliest examples of UK rap, but it was the instrumental 'Love Money', with its dubbed out sound effects, that was more often played filling dancefloors everywhere. The track then also became a huge Chicago house club track and a favourite and influence'd everyone from Masters at Work's Louie Vega to Francois Kervorkian with its dubbed-out sound. "There are certain records that 'split the atom', creating a totally new sound – serendipitous moments in time when an artist pulls a rabbit from the hat and forecasts a change ahead." Greg Wilson, DJ Magįew records crossed over into different musical worlds as successfully as the Funk Masters' sublime UK disco/jazz-funk monster classic cut 'Love Money'. This is not so hard for simple functions and variables, but it would be very difficult to expose complicated classes and member functions. I found that it is quite difficult to expose C++ functions to the V8 JavaScript engine - there is no established Luabind equivalent, so I had to create a much more low-level wrapper than I did for Lua. We already use JavaScript for our WebKit UI layer, but is it good for game logic as well? While Lua is a popular game scripting language, JavaScript is the most popular scripting language for everything else. Print numbers counting from 1 to "to_what" Second, Lua has its own idiosyncratic syntax - here is an example: First, Lua is a dynamically-typed prototype-based language, while C++ is a statically-typed class-based language. However, it would be very difficult to port Lua code to C++ and back. It does support operator overloading, so it should be easily usable for 3D vector math. Because it is so popular, it has specialized libraries like Luabind which make it easy to embed in C++ programs. Lua is a very popular game scripting language, used in everything from Aquaria to World of Warcraft. With these requirements in mind, let's evaluate our three candidates: Lua, V8, and AngelScript. I'm sure there are many great programmers out there who can read and debug code like that (the entire Scheme programming language is based on this principle, for instance) but I find it difficult! (model_view_matrix.Mult(player_two_position))).xy()) (model_view_matrix.Mult(player_one_position)).xy().Sub( Without operator overloading, we have to replace all of those basic math operators with member functions like Multiply() or Subtract(), making it look more like this: (model_view_matrix * player_two_position).xy()) (model_view_matrix * player_one_position).xy(). I won't get into exactly how this works, but using operator overloading this would look like this: For example, let's say I want to find how far apart two players are on the screen (in order to make sure their names don't overlap). Operator overloading lets us add, subtract and multiply vectors and matrices as easily as we add, subtract and multiply integers. This is also controversial, but I find that operator overloading is essential for writing maintainable linear algebra code. User-defined types and operator overloading Constantly translating code between C++ and Scheme, for example, would be really annoying and error-prone.ģ. Many of you probably disagree with this point, but hear me out before writing irate comments! By using a scripting language that's similar to C++, I can prototype performance-critical functions, and then smoothly copy them into the game engine code when they are done. The easier it is to share functions and variables between the game engine and the scripting language, the less development time it will take to hook up. For example, a gun class in the game engine might need to call a 'shoot' function from a script, and the script would then need to call a 'raycast' check from the engine to find out if it hit anything. In order for a scripting language to be able to do anything, it needs to be connected to the game engine. Third, it has to support user-defined types and operator overloading. First, it has to be easy to embed in Overgrowth. There are three things I need from a scripting language. What do we need from a scripting language? I've seen how much live texture and shader updating speeds up my graphics work, so the idea of live code updating is very appealing. However, this is not really that important: high-level game logic is almost never a performance bottleneck. I've avoided scripting in the past because native C++ code runs orders of magnitudes faster than interpreted languages. Finally, it allows players to write their own scripts, resulting in much more complex and interesting mods. Second, it helps enforce the division between the game engine and the game itself, encouraging modular and reusable code. First, it makes gameplay programmers more efficient by reducing the amount of time they spend waiting for their code to compile. In games, their use is more specific: they are embedded into the game in order to run external "scripts" (pieces of code that can be modified without recompiling the entire game). In general, scripting languages are programming languages that are used to control other applications. I haven't worked with scripting before, so I hooked up Lua, V8 and AngelScript in order to give them each a fair trial and see which is most appropriate for us. For the last week or two I've been working on choosing a scripting language for Overgrowth.
